WEEKLY ZIP CODE REPORT: Maryland COVID-19 positivity rate drops below 4%, hospitalizations fall to less than 1,000

NOTTINGHAM, MD—The Maryland Department of Health on Friday reported that the statewide COVID-19 positivity rate and total hospitalizations continued to decline over the past week.

Overall Metrics

As of Friday, February 26, 2021, there have been 380,436 cases of novel coronavirus in Maryland. The state has now conducted 7,804,095 tests, including more than 48,000 tests over the past 24 hours.

The statewide positivity rate stands at 3.66%, down from last Friday’s 4.12%.

A total of 7,656 Marylanders have died with COVID-19 and 943 individuals are currently hospitalized – a decrease of 73 hospitalizations since last Friday.  A total of 245 ICU beds are currently in use, a decrease of 27 beds since last Friday. Maryland’s positivity rate and hospitalizations have continued to fall steadily since late January.

More than 72% of Maryland’s COVID-19 fatalities have been among those over 70 years of age (5,541/7,656).
