Ice storm blasts Baltimore County, over 70 crashes reported statewide

UPDATE 2 (1:15 p.m.): The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Baltimore County.  The Winter Storm Warning is no longer in effect.

UPDATE (12:30 p.m.): From 4 a.m. to 12 p.m., Maryland State Police responded to 148 crashes, 93 disabled/unattended vehicles, and 397 calls for service.

NOTTINGHAM, MD—A powerful ice storm blasted Baltimore County on Thursday morning.

Originally forecast to start out as a snow event, the storm changed over to ice and sleet almost immediately, wreaking havoc on local roadways.

From 4 a.m. to 9 a.m., Maryland State Police responded to 75 crashes, assisted 50 disabled vehicles, and handled more than 200 calls for service during the storm.



Marylanders are being urged to avoid travel.  Road condition reports are available at https://roads.maryland.gov.

Salting and plowing operations continue statewide and a Winter Storm Warning is in effect.

A Snow Emergency Plan is now active in Baltimore County.
