Baltimore County to allow youth sports to resume on February 1

TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski on Friday issued an Executive Order stating that amateur sports events, including high school, youth, and/or recreational games, clinics, skills sessions, scrimmages and practices, may restart effective Monday, February 1, 2021.

Outdoor Sports

Attendance at organized amateur sports events held outdoors is limited to:

  • Players;
  • Referees and/or officials;
  • Trainers, coaches and staff; and
  • One parent or guardian per participant.
  • No additional spectators are allowed.

Face coverings are required at all times for:

  • Players not in the field of play;
  • Referees and/or officials;
  • Trainers, coaches and staff; and
  • A parent or guardian in attendance.

Face coverings are strongly recommended for all players engaged in the field of play.

In addition, participants not in the field of play; trainers, coaches and staff; and the parent or guardian in attendance must practice social distancing.

Indoor Sports

Attendance at organized amateur sports events held at any indoor facility is limited to 50 percent of that facility’s Maximum Occupancy, with no more than 50 people permitted per activity area.



Indoor facilities include, but are not limited to, organized sports events at schools, religious facilities, recreational establishments, fitness centers, and gyms.

Player and Attendee Logs Required to Assist with Contact Tracing

To assist with contact tracing, a log must be maintained of people present for organized sports events. Event organizers should collect names, contact information and time of attendance for all players; referees and/or officials; trainers, coaches and staff, and any parent or guardian in attendance.

Out of State Sporting Events and Tournaments Remain Prohibited

Organized amateur sports events with teams from outside the State of Maryland remain prohibited. Tournaments are also prohibited until further notice.

County Department of Recreation and Parks’ Spring Sports Season to Begin on Schedule

Consistent with typical sports seasons, Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks’ Spring Sports Season will begin on March 1, 2021.

Consistent with typical seasons, County athletic fields will be available for use beginning March 1, 2021, and ball diamonds will be available for use beginning April 1, 2021.
