TOWSON, MD—Police in Baltimore County are warning residents of a telephone scam that has been circulating this week.
The Baltimore County Police Department has learned that one of their phone numbers is being “spoofed” to call area residents. The caller claims to be from a utility company.
Authorities say anyone who receives one of these calls should hang up immediately and contact their utility provider directly using the phone number found on their website or utility bill.
For more information on spoofed phone calls, visit the FCC at www.fcc.gov/spoofing.
