7-Eleven Day canceled due to COVID-19, but free Slurpee still available

NOTTINGHAM, MD—Usually, die-hard soft drink fans can get a free Slurpee at 7-Eleven stores on July 11th.  The convenience store chain has been celebrating their self-made holiday since 2002.

This year, however, 7-Eleven Day has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, 7-Eleven said it would celebrate its birthday by donating one million meals to Feeding America, according to CNN.

“At 7‑Eleven, our top priority is the safety of customers, Franchisees and employees,” 7‑Eleven Senior Vice President Marissa Jarratt said in a statement.

“Gathering nine million of our closest friends in stores on one day just didn’t feel right, but I am heartened that we now have the opportunity to help the communities and neighborhoods that have been the lifeline of our business since 1927,” Jarratt said.

But take heart…many Nottingham-area Slurpee aficionados can still get their fix.

Members of the 7Rewards loyalty app should have already received a coupon in their accounts for one free medium Slurpee.  The offer is valid through the month of July.

Sadly, the offer was added on July 1, so enrolling today won’t get you a free Slurpee.
