ZIP CODE REPORT: Maryland COVID-19 positivity rate, hospitalizations continue to fall

NOTTINGHAM, MD—The Maryland Department of Health on Monday reported that COVID-19 hospitalizations in the state continue to fall, as does the statewide positivity rate.

As of Monday morning, there have been 53,327 cases of novel coronavirus in Maryland.  The statewide positivity rate is now at 10.8%, a decrease from Sunday’s 10.9%. Baltimore County’s positivity rate stands at 9.8%.

There have been 2,431 related deaths and 1,174 individuals are currently hospitalized…a decrease of 9 hospitalizations since Sunday.

There have been 255,403 negative test results and 3,782 individuals have been released from isolation. Of Maryland’s 2,431 deaths, 1,290 (more than 50 percent) have been in congregate facility settings (nursing homes).

Baltimore County has confirmed 6,299 COVID-19 cases and and 333 deaths while Harford County has confirmed 881 cases and 48 deaths (editor’s note: for the sake of accuracy, “probable” deaths are not included in these totals).  Of Baltimore County’s 333 COVID-19 deaths, 245 (more than 70%) have occurred within nursing home communities.

“The State of Maryland has now conducted 357,545 COVID-19 tests statewide and saw a 117% increase in testing in the month of May,” said Governor Larry Hogan on Monday. “Our statewide positivity rate has dropped to 10.8%.”
