President Trump to visit Baltimore’s Fort McHenry on Memorial Day

BALTIMORE, MD—The President of the United States will visit Baltimore next week.

White House officials say President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at Fort McHenry on Monday “to honor the American heroes who have sacrificed their lives serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.”

The historic site is where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the poem that would later become “The Star-Spangled Banner” after the American flag was raised over the fort following a battle during the War of 1812.

Newsmax reports that The Trumps will be joined by Defense Secretary Mark Esper; Interior Secretary David Bernhardt; Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and military ceremonial units.

Last year, President Trump spent Memorial Day aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier in Japan.
