Fallston woman wins $50,000 Md. Lottery top prize

FALLSTON, MD—Although the winter holidays are long past, a Holiday Gold scratch-off had one more big gift to give, and it went to lucky Judith Valle of Fallston.

She won the game’s last $50,000 top prize.

A regular scratch-off player, Judith favors $5 games because “if you lose, you don’t lose too much.” Her winning story began when she and her sister went into a Royal Farms store in Fallston to grab some chicken.

The instant ticket fan wanted to buy a $10 scratch-off but the clerk said the store had run out of her game of choice. Instead, Judith bought two $5 Holiday Gold scratch-offs.

The Harford County winner didn’t have her glasses on when she scratched off the games so her sister checked the numbers. Her sibling almost fainted over the $50,000 prize.

Judith doesn’t win big very often and finding a top prize was a huge surprise. After collecting herself, the winner called her daughter and other family members to share her great news.

The 73-year-old plans to buy a woodstove and a hot tub with her prize to equip her recently purchased home in New Mexico. She plans to save the remainder of the winnings for her grandchildren to help them financially in the future.

Her lucky Royal Farms store at 1915 Belair Road in Fallston is also a winner. Having sold a $50,000 top-prize winning ticket, the Harford County store will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
