EDGEWOOD, MD—Police in Harford County have formally charged an Edgewood man in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl earlier this year.
On Monday, January 7, 2019, Havre de Grace Police responded to a cardiac arrest involving a two-year-old female in the 600-block of Green Street (21078). The child was flown to Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital. Responding officers noticed signs of injury on the child while rendering aid and contacted Havre de Grace Criminal Investigations. Upon arrival, detectives initiated an investigation into possible child abuse of the victim, identified as 2-year-old Aubrey Hickman.
On Friday, January 11, 2019, detectives were notified that Aubrey had died at the hospital. Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for the State of Maryland for an autopsy, which resulted in her death being ruled a homicide.
On December 19, detectives formally filed charges against Brenton John Alexander Mills, of the 1700-block of Fountain Rock Way in Edgewood. Mills has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, and second-degree child abuse.
Mills was arrested at his residence on Friday afternoon with assistance from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
He is currently being held without bond at the Harford County Detention Center.
