Baltimore named 4th most dangerous city in America

BALTIMORE, MD—Baltimore has ranked in the top ten on another dubious list.

Charm City has been named the 4th most dangerous city in America by 24/7 Wall Street.

The main factors, according to the report:

> 2018 violent crime rate: 1,833.4 per 100,000 people
> 2018 homicides: 309
> Poverty rate: 22.4%
> 2018 unemployment rate: 5.7%

Baltimore’s violent crime rate of 1,833 incidents per 100,000 people is nearly five times higher than the national violent crime rate.

The city’s robbery rate of 837 incidents per 100,000 people is the highest in the country, and the murder rate of 51 per 100,000 is second highest, trailing only St. Louis.

Coming in at number 3 was Birmingham, AL; number 2 was Memphis, TN; and Detroit, MI was named America’s most dangerous city.

“It is important to note that a high violent crime rate does not mean an entire city is unsafe,” says the report. “Even within a given city, violence is hyper-local.”
