Suspect arrested following rape of Towson University student

TOWSON, MD—A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with rape after a student contacted Towson University Police on Sunday to report the incident.

The victim, an adult woman, told authorities that she went to the suspect’s apartment to watch a movie around at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

When he began to make sexual advances toward her she declined, but the suspect then held her down and raped her.

He initially blocked the victim from leaving the apartment but then did let her leave. Soon after, the victim contacted Towson University Police to report the incident.

Towson University Police were able to locate the suspect, identified as Onyekachukwu Chukwuebuk Igwilo, 20, of the 400-block of Towson Way (21286), and detained him until Baltimore County Police arrived to further the investigation, which yielded enough probable cause to make an immediate arrest of the suspect.

The victim did suffer a visible physical injury during the incident and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Igwilo is charged with first-degree rape, attempted first-degree rape, false imprisonment, and first- and second-degree assault. He is being held on no bail status pending a bail review hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
