Shoplifter arrested after scuffling with officer in White Marsh

WHITE MARSH, MD—Police say a shoplifter is in police custody after attempting to flee and scuffling with an officer last week.

At just after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, an off-duty officer was inside TJ Maxx, located at 5257 Campbell Boulevard, when he saw a shoplifter stealing & then attempting to leave.



The officer stopped the shoplifter and identified himself. The shoplifter returned the stolen merchandise to the officer, but then attempted to flee the scene.

The officer struggled with the suspect until additional officers arrived and placed the suspect in handcuffs. Both the officer and the suspect sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The suspect has been identified as Ryan Frederick Royer, 32, of Teresa Marie Court (21102).

He is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, and theft under $100.

Royer is being held on $10,000.
