BCPS: Expect ‘major’ after-school delays due to beltway closure

NOTTINGHAM, MD – Officials with Baltimore County Public Schools are advising parents to expect significant delays on Tuesday afternoon related to today’s closure of I-695.

As an example, the following message was sent out to parents at Honeygo Elementary School:

Good afternoon Honeygo families. This is a message regarding afternoon bus transportation for today, September 10, 2019.

All schools in our area have been advised that due to police activity on the beltway near Dulaney Valley Road, the possibility exists for major transportation delays after school today.

The BCPS Office of Transportation is making all attempts to transport students this afternoon but please know that we do anticipate major traffic delays for the entire afternoon dismissal time.

As always, your student’s safety is of the utmost concern to us and we hope that this information is useful as you plan for your student’s return home from Honeygo Elementary.

At this point, we have no additional information about specific bus delays.

Thank you and have a good afternoon.

Similar delays are expected at many other schools in northeastern Baltimore County.

A police pursuit ended on I-695 near Providence Road on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a complete shutdown of both the inner and outer loops.

The beltway has since been reopened.
