Water main break reported in Carney

CARNEY, MD – Crews are on the scene of a Monday morning water main break in the Carney area.

The Department of Public Works reports that an eight-inch main has ruptured in the 9300-block of Waltham Woods Road (21234).

The break was reported at 6:30 a.m. on Monday and has left about 80 residents without service.

The rupture has caused heavy damage to the roadway.

“Our office has been working with the county Department of Public Works and the city to get a sinkhole fixed at Waltham Woods Road and Summit Avenue,” said Councilman David Marks.

“The city is mobilizing one of their on-call contractors to fix the break. It should be repaired by midnight,” Marks added.

“The county is almost ready to advertise a water main project along Waltham Woods Road to eliminate these main breaks. Construction should start early next year and take about six months to complete,” Marks concluded.

Motorists should use caution in the area.
