Hillendale shop sells winning $50K Md. Lottery scratch-off

PARKVILLE, MD – A Baltimore City couple is still trying to adjust to the reality that they just won $50,000 playing a popular Maryland Lottery scratch-off game. A Gold Rush x50 instant ticket delivered the big win.

Last Friday, the 63-year-old wife and 72-year-old husband decided to play a few games at their favorite Maryland Lottery retailer, E-Z Convenience on Loch Raven Boulevard. They visited the store and played Pick 3 and Pick 4 before turning their attention to scratch-off games. They purchased three games, including a $10 Gold Rush x50 instant ticket, which they scratched in the store.

“I knew when I saw that gold bar that I won something big,” said the wife. “My eyes got so big, but I didn’t want to make a big scene. I just couldn’t believe it.”

The nursing assistant then showed the scratch-off ticket to her husband, who also went into shock. Instead of hanging around the store, the pair put away the lucky instant ticket and casually left the building. At home, they called their daughter to share the good news that they just won $50,000!

“She called me saying she was about to have a heart attack,” said the daughter, who accompanied her parents to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. “I was about to drop everything and run straight there.” Her mom’s news was far less tragic and far more astounding.

“I swear she had to tell me three times before it really sank in,” said the daughter, smiling.

At Maryland Lottery headquarters on Tuesday, the family shared the winning experience with officials. The husband and father, a retired aerospace employee, said he’s going to take some of the winnings and go shopping for new clothes. The wife, on the other hand, said she plans to spend some of the prize on home improvements. Both said they are hoping for an even bigger win one day and will continue to play Lottery games.
