I-695 outer loop shut down for several hours overnight due to fatal crash

PARKVILLE, MD – Maryland State Police say the outer loop of the beltway was shut down for several hours overnight due to a fatal crash.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash that occurred when a driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle and overturned.

Troopers are working to identify the adult male victim and notify family. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. His body will be taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. His identification is not being released at this time.



At just after 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, troopers were dispatched for a report of a single vehicle crash on the outer loop of I-695 at exit 28, Providence Road. Due to the crash, troopers had to close the entire outer loop. MDOT State Highway Administration personnel responded to detour traffic onto Providence Road and around the scene. All lanes were reopened at just 4 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The preliminary investigation has indicated that the driver lost control of his vehicle, overturned, and was ejected. Two passengers inside the vehicle were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries.
