Elderly Essex man killed in Route 702 crash

fatal-crashRoute 702 at East Homberg Avenue in Essex was shut down throughout the afternoon on Monday while investigators were on the scene of a fatal crash that killed an 83-year-old man.

Authorities have determined that, at just before 2:45 p.m. on Monday, a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on East Homberg Avenue crossing Route 702 when it was struck on the passenger side by a Dodge Charger traveling southbound on Route 702, causing the Corolla to roll over.



The driver of the Charger, a 32-year-old man, was taken by Medevac to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries Medevac. The driver of the Corolla suffered cardiac arrest at the scene and was taken to MedStar Franklin Square Hospital where he was pronounced dead at just before 3:45 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Marion Joseph Krolikowski, 83, of the 1700-block of Hilltop Avenue (21221).

Crash investigators continue to work to determine the factors involved in the cause of this fatal crash.
