A community is in mourning after a 7-year-old boy from Joppa was killed in a motor vehicle accident in Bel Air on Monday morning.
Tripp Johnson was killed in a 12-vehicle pileup that occurred at about 7 a.m. on Monday along Route 24 at Ring Factory Road.
The fiery crash occurred when a ShopRite tractor-trailer driven by Carloo Watson, 49, of Brunswick, NJ, was traveling south on Route 24 and, for unknown reasons, failed to slow or stop and crashed into multiple vehicles.
Also killed in the crash was Andrew Klein, 65, of Forest Hill Maryland. Klein was a local businessman and philanthropist.
Tripp Johnson’s mother, Megan Fulleylove, 30, was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she is still being treated for critical injuries sustained in the accident.
Johnson was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help cover funeral costs for Tripp. So far, just over $35,000 has been raised toward the $50,000 goal.
“Megan, with her lovable free-spirit and Travis (Johnson, Tripp’s father) with zest for life, will be forever broken from this catastrophic loss,” writes Jennifer Block on the GoFundMe page. “Nothing can take away the family’s pain and grief but it is our hope with this fundraiser, to relieve them of some of the financial worry involved with this tragedy. We are asking for donations in order to cover the costs involved with for the funeral, medical expenses, and any extra funds will be used to aid Megan and Travis during her recovery and their lost wages.”
Tripp was a second-grade student at William Paca/Old Post Elementary School in Harford County.
