As the next winter weather system approaches Nottingham, the National Weather Service has issued a pair of alerts for the Baltimore area.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for northern Baltimore County and a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for southern Baltimore County, including Baltimore City.
Both alerts will be in effect from 2 p.m. on Sunday until 4 a.m. on Monday morning.
In northern Baltimore County, 4 to 7 inches of snow are expected. Travel could become very difficult. The steadiest snow is expected late Sunday afternoon and evening.
Snow will be heaviest between 4 and 10 p.m. on Sunday with snowfall rates around one inch per hour expected.
A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. The National Weather Service says, if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. When venturing outside, watch your first few steps taken on steps, sidewalks, and driveways, which could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.
In southern Baltimore County and in Baltimore City, 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet are expected.
A Winter Weather Advisory means periods of wintry precipitation will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibility, and use caution while driving.
