In the wake of recent evening disruptions in the White Marsh area, The Avenue at White Marsh has announced a change to how officials will enforce the youth curfew policy that was enacted in 2005.
In 2005, The Avenue took the first step in enhancing public safety by instituting a 9 p.m. Youth Escort Policy.
In 2011, this policy was updated to require adult supervision for all AMC Theatre show times beginning at 9 p.m. or later.
On Thursday, The Avenue announced the following:
“As with any policy, a method of enforcement is required. While this Youth Escort Policy has been in effect for some time, our approach to enforcement will change based on what is determined to be in the best interest of our young visitors, as well as our center.
With this in mind, we offer the following overview of our enforcement practices to begin Friday, 2/22/19. We ask that parents provide the guidance our young visitors require.
ALL unsupervised visitors, under the age of 17 or without proof of age, are required to have transportation from THE AVENUE at White Marsh by 9pm. At 9pm, all unsupervised visitors under 17 or without proof of age are in violation of the center’s Youth Escort Policy – which is subject to a 3 month barring from the property. This barring period does not allow for return during the 3 month time period – with or without supervision.
*** Parents – Your child may choose to leave the property to avoid barring. Please ensure their transportation arrives before 9pm if your expectation is that they will be picked up at THE AVENUE at White Marsh.
By 8pm, our team will begin reminding young visitors of our policy. Those not patronizing one of our businesses will be asked to make arrangements for transportation immediately. It is our expectation that visitors respect the direction given by our property representatives. Please ensure your child is aware of our Rules of Etiquette.
By 8pm, young visitors waiting for rideshare pick-ups will be directed to wait at a designated location in front of Barnes & Noble where parking is reserved for these vehicles. Rideshare pick-ups for those under 17 or without proof of age are to be scheduled so as to have transportation from the property by 9pm.
At 9pm, all unsupervised visitors under 17 or without proof of age (including those who state they are waiting for their ride) will be in violation of the center’s Youth Escort Policy.
For those with children visiting AMC Theatres:
On Fridays & Saturdays, PG-13 screenings scheduled between 8pm and 9pm, will typically sell out in advance. Once sold out, unsupervised children without tickets will not be permitted access to the theatre after 8pm.
Visitors under 17 or without proof of age, leaving a screening at AMC Theatres after 9pm, must have transportation from the property before exiting the theatre. Movie goers under the age of 17 or without proof of age and waiting for their ride after 9pm inside AMC, may be directed to leave the building.
At 9pm, all unsupervised children under 17 or without proof of age (including those who state they are waiting for their ride) will be in violation of the center’s Youth Escort Policy.
Young visitors 17 and older should be prepared to present identification before entering the theatre. Identification will be required with or without a movie ticket.”
In light of recent unruly crowds that have come to The Avenue after White Marsh Mall has closed for the day, The Avenue writes:
“For those with children visiting White Marsh Mall:
At all times, young visitors crossing Honeygo Boulevard should be directed to use the crosswalks at Campbell Blvd or Corporate Drive. If crossing from the Mall to THE AVENUE after 8pm, they should expect to provide our team with information regarding their transportation from the property. Those who do not have transportation arranged will be directed to do so and wait in a designated location.
At no time should a child be directed to leave the Mall at 9pm and wait for a ride at THE AVENUE. In these instances, young people will be offered the opportunity to wait in a designated location and will be issued a 3 month barring for violation of our Youth Escort Policy.”
