OFFICER DOWN: Police officer struck by vehicle near Parkville, suspect shots

News AlertUPDATE 2: Police now confirm that the suspect, 28-year-old Derrick Alexander Sellman, of the 2300-block Walshire Avenue (21214), has died. The police officer has been released from the hospital.

UPDATE: There are no confirmed fatalities at this time. The police officer who was struck was working as a security guard at the Parkway Crossing shopping center at the time of the incident.



The officer was made aware of a black SUV that was driving erratically. The officer approached the SUV and had a conversation with the driver.

The driver then allegedly tried to speed away, striking the officer. At some point, the officer fired a shot, struck the suspect, and the SUV then hit another vehicle.

The officer is expected to survive. The suspect is reportedly in grave condition.

A police officer has been struck in the Hillendale area near Parkville.

At just before 8:30 p.m. on Monday night, the officer was struck in the 2400-block of Cleanleigh Drive (21234).

Reports indicate that the officer shot a suspect in the vehicle.

The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the head and is being flown to Shock Trauma.

A second medic unit has been requested.
