Police are investigating after a 7-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle in Essex on Thursday.

The girl was struck at around 3:30 p.m. in the 900-block of S. Marlyn Avenue (21221), across the street from Sandalwood Elementary School.

Authorities say that the girl had just crossed the street and was standing on the sidewalk next to an entrance to a residential community.

As a white work van was pulling out of the residential community, the girl reportedly ran out in front of it and was struck.

The girl sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

No update has been provided on the girl’s condition.
