Essex construction worker dies in accident at planned McCormick & Co. headquarters

AmbulanceA 31-year-old construction worker from Essex was killed in an industrial accident on Friday morning along Schilling Road in Cockeysville at the planned future headquarters of McCormick & Co.

Michael David Zeller, of the 800 block of Creek Road, 21221, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Baltimore County Fire Department.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., a medic unit from the Cockeysville Volunteer Fire Company responded to a call for a fall victim.

Upon arrival, the medic crew found Zeller trapped in an elevator shaft.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Zeller fell about 20 feet and then became trapped between a wall and the counter-weight from one of the elevators.

Crews immediately requested additional resources for a confined space rescue.

Within fifteen minutes of the medic unit’s arrival, Zeller was freed and pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other injuries reported.

An investigation is under way at this hour.
