Eastern Tech principal named finalist for 2018 Principal of the Year

C. Michelle AndersonSix principals have been named finalists for 2018-2019 BCPS Principal of the Year.

Elementary finalists:

  • Renee Jenkins, Deer Park Elementary: She is in her sixth year as principal at Deer Park and previously served as an assistant principal at Cedarmere Elementary.
  • Cathy Thomas, Cromwell Valley Elementary Regional Magnet: She is in her fifth year as principal at Cromwell Valley and previously served as an assistant principal at Logan Elementary and Ridgely Middle.
  • Drue Whitney, Red House Run Elementary: She is in her 11th year as principal at Red House Run and previously served as an assistant principal there and as a mentor teacher at Victory Villa Elementary.

Secondary finalists:



  • C. Michelle Anderson, Eastern Technical High: She is in her third year as principal at Eastern Tech and previously served as academy principal at York County School of Technology in Pennsylvania.
  • Deborah Magness, Cockeysville Middle. She is in her 10th year as principal at Cockeysville Middle and previously served as assistant principal there.
  • Dr. Kandice Taylor, Deer Park Middle. She is in her second year as principal at Deer Park Middle and previously served as principal at Kenwood High and Golden Ring Middle.

“The Principal of the Year finalists are dedicated school and community leaders,” BCPS Interim Superintendent Verletta White said. “Each one has gone above and beyond to support students and staff.”

The Principal of the Year program is in its sixth year. This is the third year that BCPS has honored both an elementary and a secondary principal of the year.

The 2017-2018 BCPS Principals of the Year are Cheryl Brooks from Berkshire Elementary and Aubrey Brown from Randallstown High.

The 2018-2019 Elementary and Secondary Principal of the Year will be announced April 25.
