Man attempts suicide by jumping in front of truck on I-695

AmbulancePolice are investigating an incident in which a man reportedly tried to commit suicide along I-695 near Loch Raven Boulevard.

At about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday February 21, state troopers responded to the inner loop of the beltway at Loch Raven Boulevard for a reported pedestrian struck by a tractor-trailer. Upon arriving at the scene, police found a 29-year-old black male pedestrian with a serious head injury, caused by being struck by the tractor-trailer.

The pedestrian was unconscious but breathing and was taken to Shock Trauma for treatment. The driver of the tractor-trailer stated that the man had suddenly leaped from the shoulder into traffic and threw his hands up in the air. The driver attempted to brake to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unable to stop and struck the man.

During the subsequent investigation, it was learned that police had earlier responded to a Parkville residence due to the man acting disorderly. The subject had left the residence prior to officers arriving and couldn’t be located.

The man is still being treated and his complete status is unknown. The investigation is on-going and is being conducted by the Maryland State Police.
