Stabbing death being investigated as justifiable self-defense

Police CrimePolice in Baltimore County are investigating Wednesday’s homicide near Rosedale as justifiable self-defense and no charges have been filed at this time.

Officers responded to the 5600 block of Utrecht Road, between Rosedale and Overlea, at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday after a physical altercation was reported at the scene.



Michael Paul Connolly III, 25, of the 5600 block of Utrecht Road, suffered a stab wound and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Homicide detectives conducted their investigation and learned the circumstances leading up to the incident.

A man learned that someone at Connolly’s residence was responsible for stealing property from his residence. He knocked on Connolly’s front door to confront the residents about stealing his property.

Connolly and another man from the house came outside and an argument between the three ensued. According to the man, a large dog belonging to one of the residents also attacked him. Police determined that Connolly and the man pulled out knives and Connolly was stabbed.

After extensive interviews, the man was released from police custody. Police found evidence of a struggle and justification of the man’s statement. The investigation into the theft and the death is continuing at this time.

Police cannot release any identifying information about the man involved in this incident, under state law.
