Nottingham woman nabs winning $30K Md. Lottery scratch-off

MD LotteryA 26-year-old paralegal enjoyed an open-and-shut case involving her $30,000 win playing the Maryland Lottery’s Ruby Riches scratch-off.

The legal eagle discovered her prize-winning game after stopping at Walther Liquors in Nottingham after work. She bought a pack of cigarettes and had a few $1 bills left over so she added the $3 Ruby Riches scratch-off cards to her purchase.

“I was just sitting on my couch and winding down while watching a little television when I figured I’d see if I won anything,” she said. “I thought to myself that it would be cool if I won $50. I got the shock of my life when I saw that it was much more than that!”

The Nottingham resident verified her big win by scanning the instant ticket using the Maryland Lottery’s mobile app. She picked Ruby Riches because it was a new scratch-off, she said, and she liked how it looked. She likes the game even better after her big win! Ruby Riches still has six more $30,000 top prizes remaining and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $1,000.

The new homeowner said her prize arrived at a great time. “I’m going to put this money into my savings account,” she said, “just in case I need to use some of it to fix things around the house.” She plans to help family members, too, especially her mom. “This is such a blessing,” the winner said.

The lucky Maryland Lottery retailer also has reason to celebrate. For selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game, Walther Liquors at 8625 Walther Boulevard in Nottingham earned a $300 bonus from the Lottery.
