shooting-news-graphicUPDATE 3: Two men have been charged in connection with this homicide.

UPDATE 2: Police say that, just after midnight, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Peterson Road for report of a shooting. Upon arrival they located a female victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body.

The victim, identified as 13-year-old Iyanna Watkins, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, an adult male with at least one gunshot wound to the lower body, was located in the 500 block of Compass Road and transported to the hospital by medics. A third victim, also an adult male with at least one gunshot wound to the lower body, was identified after he was taken to the hospital by a family member.

Police have determined that the victims were with a group of people sitting behind the 7-Eleven store to the rear of Peterson Road. At least one suspect began firing at the group from an alley a distance away before fleeing the scene.

Investigators are looking in to the possibility that the shooting is related to an altercation that occurred earlier in the evening between this group and another group. Detectives are canvassing area businesses for surveillance video to confirm if such an altercation did occur.

Police believe this was a targeted crime but are still working to determine if one person or the group was the intended target.
