Fire-related deaths reported in Parkville, Middle River

Baltimore County Fire DepartmentAuthorities in northeastern Baltimore County say that two men have died in fires since Friday, one in Middle River and another in Parkville.

On Tuesday, David Meredith Smith, 56, of Parkville, died of injuries sustained in an apartment fire at the above address.

Baltimore County investigators have ruled the fire accidental, with careless smoking as the cause.

Baltimore County Fire Department crews were dispatched to this fire at 4:07 p.m. The fire originated in the victim’s bedroom – on the third floor of the garden-style apartment building – and was mostly contained to that unit.

Fire crews located the victim, administered medical care and transported him to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

10000 block of Crane Lane

Howard Francis Holehan, 67, of Middle River, died on January 27 of injuries sustained in a one-alarm fire at his home. Baltimore County investigators have ruled the fire accidental, caused by careless use of smoking materials.

Fire Department crews responded to the Crane Lane home at about 5:35 p.m. The victim, who is disabled, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.
