This weekend, the Army-Navy game comes to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, which can only mean one thing.
Yes, the Army-Navy 2016 Ball Run passed through Perry Hall on Friday afternoon as the Army West Point Marathon Team carried on its tradition of running a game ball from West Point, New York to the location of the annual game.
The game is being held in Baltimore this year, resulting in a 247-mile trek for the Army marathoners.
The runner was spotted coming down Belair Road in Perry Hall, complete with a police escort, early Friday afternoon.
Navy athletes also carried a game ball from Annapolis to Baltimore.
The Army-Navy game dates back to 1890, and some of the game’s traditions go back almost that far, according to CBS Sports. One tradition that is fairly new – it began in 1982 and has occurred continuously since 1994 – is the annual marathon run of the game ball to the stadium. After evening pep rallies, running relay teams from West Point and Annapolis made the journey to Baltimore, game ball in hand.
Saturday’s Army-Navy game begins at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on CBS.
