Boat capsizes in Gunpowder River

Water RescueUPDATE: Authorities now report that what they spotted was likely marine trash. They do not believe that a boat capsized.

Fire boats were on the scene Saturday afternoon after a boat reportedly capsized in the Gunpowder River.

Crews from the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and the Abingdon Fire Company responded to the Mariner Point Ramp in Joppatowne shortly after 3:30 p.m.

At the scene rescue personnel found that one boat capsized in the waters of the Gunpowder.

A raft has been found at the scene and fire boats are using SONAR to search the water for individuals. 

County officials are attempting to contact the owner of the vessel. 

There is no word on any injuries.
